  • St George's Church 296 Glenferrie Road Malvern, VIC, 3144 Australia (map)

Registration closing date : 31st August 2024

Let's Play with Calligraphy - An Introduction to Calligraphy Tools
from $50.00

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those people wishing to refresh their skills.

There is no previous experience or knowledge required.

During the class, we will be looking at different styles of calligraphy and what kinds of writing tools could be used to replicate those styles. This is a hands-on workshop where we will use a variety of writing tools including brushes and traditional calligraphy pens with metal nibs (pointed and broad-edge). We will also cover learning how to prepare our tools before use and how to look after them so that they last. Finally, we will cover how to follow instructions from a book or exemplar (sample sheet) so that you can continue practicing using your tools, and learn new scripts on your own or in future calligraphy workshops.

You may purchase the workshop kit for $10 from the tutor, or bring your own materials (see materials list)

This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. Parents or guardians are very welcome to attend, they do not need to pay the workshop fee if they will not be participating. Please contact the tutor so that arrangements can be made.
