Background - Klimt Study with Gaye-Godfrey Nicholls

This two-day workshop will draw inspiration from the colour and pattern used by Gustav Klimt, particularly his use of gold, metallics and spiral motifs. We will examine and reproduce some of the patterns and then incorporate them into an original work with a suitable calligraphic text or in preparation for text to be added later. We will utilise all available forms of gold media, become familiar with their qualities and limitations.
Prior to the workshop, I encourage participants to discover the fascinating and diverse array of Klimt art, immerse themselves in his visual language and familiarise themselves particularly with his Golden Phase works as they will form the basis for our work. Books as well as internet-based images are useful to scrutinise details.
