Painting on Candles with Sally Diserio

  • 296 Glenferrie Road Malvern, VIC, 3144 Australia (map)

There are numerous times in our lives when candles play a role, be it practical or symbolic. Whether it be blowing out the birthday candles, relaxing or meditating by the light of scented candles or taking part in a religious ceremony, candles bring a sense of occasion.
Have you ever wanted to decorate a candle for a significant occasion, for a gift or just for the fun of it? This workshop will provide you with a guide and plenty of useful tips for painting on a cylindrical wax surface.
Let your imagination take over, plan your design then transfer it to your candle.
    • 1 A4 sheet of tracing paper

    • Soft graphite pencil: 2B or softer, this is used for rubbing over the back of the tracing paper

    • Hard graphite pencil: 2H or harder, this is for transferring the image.

    • Mixing palette (plastic or disposable)

    • Masking tape

    • Paint brushes suitable for acrylic paints, Sizes approx. 0, 2, 4

    • If you want letters on the candle, they are drawn and painted. So, you can bring finer brushes for letters.

    • 1 wider brush (2 cm)

    • Water jars

    • Paper towel

    • Selection of acrylic paints to suit your colour choices

    • White gesso primer

    • All-purpose Liquid sealer( any brand)

    • Bubble wrap

Quantities of the above items are small so don’t go out to buy them if you don’t have them already. If you prefer to pay a small cost per head ($5), I will provide enough for use in the class.

Please let Gyounghee know if you need the above three items from Sally.
